Broken links
URLs returning error responses (404, 5xx). Impact: poor UX, wasted crawl budget, reduced trust signals.
Flowpane shows the broken URL, status code, source pages linking to it, and incoming link count.
Fix: Fix the destination, update source links, or set up 301 redirects.
Diagnose the observed response
A 404 can indicate a removed or mistyped URL; a 5xx can reflect a temporary server failure. Check the exact URL and observation time, then confirm the intended destination with the maintainer. A source-link count describes the observed pages, rather than every incoming link on the web.
Update the responsible source link, restore appropriate content, or arrange a redirect only when the intended replacement is known. Do not redirect unrelated retired pages to a homepage solely to remove an error count. Repeat the crawl after publication and review remaining failures.
