Flowpane for TYPO3

Flowpane for TYPO3 is a TYPO3 extension (extension key flowpane) that connects a TYPO3 installation to Flowpane. TYPO3 often runs several sites and languages from one installation, with robots.txt, sitemaps and indexing directives decided by site configuration, TypoScript and extensions; the extension tells Flowpane exactly how each one is produced, while Flowpane continues to check the public Site independently.

What it brings

  • Know who owns each output: whether robots.txt is a physical file or a static route in the site configuration, and whether the XML sitemap comes from TYPO3's own SEO extension, the news extension or another sitemap extension.
  • Every site and language: the published pages of each site and language, with their slugs, hreflang values and modification dates, so multilingual Sites are governed language by language.
  • Page-level SEO settings: each page's Index this page and Follow this page settings and whether a canonical link is set, compared with what the public page serves.
  • Changes as they happen: edits made in the TYPO3 backend are recorded as they happen, without slowing editors down.
  • The Flowpane-managed sitemap, applied with approval through Managed changes, alongside the sitemaps TYPO3 already serves.

The extension sends addresses, dates and settings, never page content, and installing it does not change your Site's score.

Guides

  • How it works: how TYPO3 produces robots.txt, sitemaps and indexing directives across sites and languages, and what the extension adds.

Requirements

Component Requirement
TYPO3 14.3.8 or a later 14.3 release, installed in Composer mode
PHP 8.2 or later, with the sodium extension
Database A database supported by TYPO3 14, such as MariaDB
Installation Served over HTTPS at the root of the Site's address
Key protection TYPO3's encryption key, or a dedicated Flowpane key secret of at least 32 characters in config/system/additional.php
Background tasks The flowpane:worker command run every 5 to 15 minutes through TYPO3's console task or the server's task scheduling

Connect TYPO3

Our team sets up TYPO3 connections with you. Contact assist@flowpane.com with the Site's address, and we will provide the extension package and walk through each step:

  1. Add the extension with Composer and run vendor/bin/typo3 extension:setup.
  2. Set up the background task for flowpane:worker.
  3. We start the connection for the Site from Flowpane, and TYPO3 asks a backend administrator to sign in and confirm it.
  4. Review the connection in Admin Tools → Flowpane in the TYPO3 backend, and confirm the Site shows Connected in Flowpane.

Every action in the backend module is protected by TYPO3's own form protection, and identity recovery needs a system maintainer.

Keys, restores and recovery

The extension seals its keys with the secret named above, so a database copy alone never reveals them. Preserve the configuration when you restore or move the Site, and restoring it resumes the same connection. If it cannot be recovered, a system maintainer uses the extension's recovery step and you reconnect. A disconnect made in Flowpane reaches TYPO3 automatically, and uninstalling withdraws the extension's output and ends the connection.

Managed changes

Connecting does not give Flowpane permission to change the Site. The Flowpane-managed sitemap needs two separate decisions: a site owner allows it in TYPO3's configuration file, and a person with the right role approves it in Flowpane through Managed changes. Because the first decision lives in the configuration file, it can never be switched on from the backend alone. robots.txt stays with whichever part of TYPO3 produces it today; Flowpane reports and verifies it.
